Recent litigation includes a challenge to a state budget bill that increases taxes on companies by retroactively and prospectively excluding dividends earned by foreign subsidiaries from a company’s sales factor when apportioning income to California in a water’s-edge election.
CalTax also continues to lead a business coalition formed in 2022 to oppose a consulting firm’s effort to persuade local governments to unlawfully expand their utility user taxes to streaming services.
