Sales tax rates increased this morning in two cities, and decreased in 11 areas, the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration reported. The changes were the result of local tax measures being approved by voters, or temporary taxes expiring.
When the calendar turned to April 1, the tax rate in Isleton (located in Sacramento County) increased from 8.25 percent to 8.75 percent and the tax in Taft (Kern County) increased a full percentage point, from 7.25 percent to 8.25 percent.
The 11 jurisdictions where consumers will enjoy a tax reduction:
- Del Norte County, in all incorporated cities that do not impose a district tax, from 7.5 percent to 7.25 percent.
- Del Norte County unincorporated areas, from 8.5 percent to 8.25 percent.
- Crescent City, from 8.5 percent to 8.25 percent.
- Marin County, in unincorporated areas and incorporated cities that do not impose a district tax, from 8.25 percent to 8 percent.
- Corte Madera, from 9 percent to 8.75 percent.
- Fairfax, from 9 percent to 8.75 percent.
- Larkspur, from 9 percent to 8.75 percent.
- Novato, from 8.5 percent to 8.25 percent.
- San Anselmo, from 8.75 percent to 8.5 percent.
- San Rafael, from 9.25 percent to 9 percent.
- Sausalito, from 8.75 percent to 8.5 percent.
