Waste, Fraud & Mismanagement:
Your Tax Dollars at Work

Sacramento County Hiring P.R. Workers Even as Budget Woes Mount. In late June, Sacramento County Supervisor Roger Dickinson said the county is in horrible shape financially. “In the 15 budgets I’ve been through, I have never seen a worse budget,” he said. “Even in the hard times of the ‘90s, it was not as grim.” The quote was reported by The Sacramento Bee, which has been running stories about how the county’s budget problems have led to $68 million in cuts – scaling back mental health programs, business development programs, senior centers, the probation department and many other county programs.

Still, the county has posted “help wanted” ads for two high-paying “communication and media officer” positions. One of the positions carries a salary of $6,979 to $7,696 per month, “plus Management Differential plus excellent benefits.” The other pays $5,507 to $6,692 a month, plus the management perk and fringe benefits.
